8th Grade Language Arts:
Book: Voyages in English. Supplementary materials will also be utilized and kept in students' interactive notebooks.
Focus: Grammar and Rhetorical Skills
Class will begin with a grammar lesson; students will write each day. Vocabulary, including Latin/Greek roots, will be studied.
Students will write a variety of papers this year:
- Personal Narrative
- Reader's Response - Creative Writing
- How-to Article - Argumentative Writing
- Career Research Paper - Business Letter
- Descriptive Writing - Dear Author/Letter about Literature Contest
These utilize research skills as well as writing skills.
Each week, students will study an Article of the Week. Students will be asked to read and annotate this informational text.
They will answer questions about this article, as well. Articles and response handouts are posted on the homepage of this website.
